This also avoids setting up page tables from irq context which is generally dangerous and uses the atomic pool instead. Make the callback return a bool instead of an int, handling how to deal with errors internally. Drop unused HAVE_OLDMEM_PFN_IS_RAM. We soon want to make use of this infrastructure from other drivers: virtio-mem, registering one callback for each virtio-mem device, to prevent reading unplugged virtio-mem memory. Handle it via a generic vmcore_cb structure, prepared for future extensions: for example, once we support virtio-mem on s390x where the vmcore is completely constructed in the second kernel, we want to detect and add plugged virtio-mem memory ranges to the vmcore in order for them to get dumped properly. Handle corner cases that are unexpected and shouldn't happen in sane setups: registering a callback after the vmcore has already been opened (warn only) and unregistering a callback after the vmcore has already been opened (warn and essentially read only zeroes from that point on). Patch #1-#3 are cleanups. Patch #4 extends the existing oldmem_pfn_is_ram mechanism. Patch #5-#7 are virtio-mem refactorings for patch #8, which implements the virtio-mem logic to query the state of device blocks. Patch #8: "Although virtio-mem currently supports reading unplugged memory in the hypervisor, this will change in the future, indicated to the device via a new feature flag. We similarly sanitized /proc/kcore access recently. [...] Distributions that support virtio-mem+kdump have to make sure that the virtio_mem module will be part of the kdump kernel or the kdump initrd; dracut was recently [2] extended to include virtio-mem in the generated initrd. As long as no special kdump kernels are used, this will automatically make sure that virtio-mem will be around in the kdump initrd and sanitize /proc/vmcore access -- with dracut" This is the last remaining bit to support VIRTIO_MEM_F_UNPLUGGED_INACCESSIBLE [3] in the Linux implementation of virtio-mem. Note: this is best-effort. We'll never be able to control what runs inside the second kernel, really, but we also don't have to care: we only care about sane setups where we don't want our VM getting zapped once we touch the wrong memory location while dumping. While we usually expect sane setups to use "makedumfile", nothing really speaks against just copying /proc/vmcore, especially in environments where HWpoisioning isn't typically expected. Also, we really don't want to put all our trust completely on the memmap, so sanitizing also makes sense when just using "makedumpfile". Somehow this was missed when I was testing c28b27416da9 ("openrisc: Implement proper SMP tlb flushing") and now the SMP kernel fails to completely boot. In OpenRISC VMA is used only to determine which cores need to have their TLB entries flushed. This patch updates the logic to flush tlbs on all cores when the VMA is passed as NULL. Also, we update places VMA is passed as NULL to use flush_tlb_kernel_range instead. Now, the only place VMA is passed as NULL is in the implementation of flush_tlb_kernel_range. This isn't enough as some installers are trying to pass all configuration data via kernel command line, and even with zfcp alone it is easy to generate really long command lines. Therefore extend the command line to 4 kbytes. In the parm area where the command line is stored there is no indication of the maximum allowed length, so a new field which contains the maximum length is added. The parm area has always been initialized to zero, so with old kernels this field would read zero. This is important because tools like zipl could read this field. If it contains a number larger than zero zipl knows the maximum length that can be stored in the parm area, otherwise it must assume that it is booting a legacy kernel and only 896 bytes are available. The removing of trailing whitespace in head.S is also removed because code to do this is already present in setup_boot_command_line(). This was used in the past to reserve space for the early sccb buffer, but with commit 9a5131b87cac1 ("s390/boot: move sclp early buffer from fixed address in asm to C") this is no longer required. With our current DMA code these applications will run out of DMA addresses after mapping half of the available memory because the number of DMA mappings is constrained by the number of concurrently active DMA addresses we support which in turn is limited by the minimum of hardware constraints and high_memory. Limiting the number of active DMA addresses to high_memory is only a heuristic to save memory used by the iommu_bitmap and DMA page tables however. This was added under the assumption that it rarely makes sense to DMA map more than system memory. To accommodate special applications which insist on double mapping, which works on other platforms, allow specifying a factor of how many times installed memory is available as DMA address space. Use 0 as a special value to apply no constraints beyond what hardware dictates at the expense of significantly more memory use. It allows concurrent access to the CPU Measurement counter facility via several perf_event_open() system call invocations and via ioctl() system call of device /dev/hwc. However the access via device /dev/hwc was exclusive, only one process was able to open this device. The patch removes this restriction. Now multiple invocations of lshwc can execute in parallel. They can access different CPUs and counter sets or CPUs and counter set can overlap. Breaking events are usually instructions that change the program flow - for example branches, and instructions that modify the address in the PSW like lpswe. This is useful for debugging wild branches, because one could easily figure out where the wild branch was originating from. What is problematic is that lpswe is considered a breaking event, and therefore overwrites BEAR on kernel exit. The BEAR enhancement facility adds new instructions that allow to save/restore BEAR and also an lpswey instruction that doesn't cause a breaking event. So we can save BEAR on kernel entry and restore it on exit to user space.
