Over time dma-buf-map grew up to more functionality than the one used by dma-buf: in fact it's just a shim layer to abstract system memory, that can be accessed via regular load and store, from IO memory that needs to be acessed via arch helpers. The idea is to extend this API so it can fulfill other needs, internal to a single driver. Example: in the i915 driver it's desired to share the implementation for integrated graphics, which uses mostly system memory, with discrete graphics, which may need to access IO memory. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The "nomodeset" kernel cmdline parameter is handled by the vgacon driver but the exported vgacon_text_force() symbol is only used by DRM drivers. It makes much more sense for the parameter logic to be in the subsystem of the drivers that are making use of it. Let's move the vgacon_text_force() function and related logic to the DRM subsystem. While doing that, rename it to drm_firmware_drivers_only() and make it return true if "nomodeset" was used and false otherwise. This is a better description of the condition that the drivers are testing for. Subsequent patch will address this. - nouveau, because DRIVER_ATOMIC uapi is still not the default on the platforms where it's supported (i.e. again driver_feature mangling) - vc4, again because of driver_feature mangling - qxl, because the ioctl table is somewhere else and moving that is maybe a bit too much, hence the num_ioctls assignment prevents a const driver structure. - arcpgu, because that is stuck behind a pending tiny-fication series from me. - legacy drivers, because legacy requires non-const drm_driver. Note that for armada I also went ahead and made the ioctl array const.
